Thomas and Vicki loved their four-legged companion
Pepper was a beautiful Australian Shepherd, playful and full of energy. They’d rescued her from a local animal shelter when she was about a year old.
During outings their loving and mischievous doggie was an ever-present companion. During Netflix binges she could always be found curled up next to them on the sofa.
Pepper filled a special place in their hearts. As time went by, she truly became part of the family.
The day came to say goodbye
One day Pepper refused to eat. She was listless and slept most of the day. Concerned, they took her to the vet where she was examined, and blood samples were taken.
They waited anxiously for the results, hoping their little doggie was going to be okay. They tried to comfort her, but she continued to decline.
Finally, the vet called. The news wasn’t good. Pepper was going to pass soon.
To spare her suffering, the decision was made to euthanize. Thomas and Vicki drove her back to the vet and held their little companion as she slipped away.
It was one of the hardest days of their lives.
The grief was overwhelming, so they reached out to me.
Both were caught in the unfamiliar landscape of grief, feeling lost and uncertain about how to support each other.
Together, we embarked on a journey to navigate their grief and emerge into a more hopeful chapter of life.
Through our collaborative efforts, they rediscovered joy and were able to share their memories of Pepper without the overwhelming pain. “We didn’t believe we could find healing, but it happened.”
