Frequently Asked Questions

What are your specialties?

I help people who are suffering from:

  • Grief and Loss
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Chronic stress
  • Trauma/PTSD
  • Loss of pet
How do you meet with people?

I meet with clients via Zoom. I prefer to meet with clients on a weekly basis, the same day and time each week.

As we meet together, and I learn the details about your situation, I’ll give you tools to help you manage any symptoms you may be feeling.

You’ll have a safe place where you can share how you’re feeling, cry, complain, or just vent without having to worry about hurting anyone’s feelings.

I’ve got your back. 🙂

What are your hours?
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 11:00am – 7:00pm PT
Thursday 9:00am – 5:00pm PT
How long are the sessions?

I offer private 50-minute sessions and 30-minute emergency check-ins.

How do I set up an initial appointment?
I offer a free 15-minute consultation for new clients. To schedule, call my office at (916) 415-8619. Or you can use my online scheduler.
How does scheduling work?

Before our first session, you and I will meet for a free 15-minute consultation to ensure that we will be a good fit to work together. Then, we’ll determine a weekly appointment time that works for both of us.

Research shows that healing is best achieved through consistent, weekly appointments. Random appointments with varying intervals make it more difficult to apply and reinforce the new skills you’ll be learning.

Because of this, my preference is a recurring appointment the same time and day each week. I’ve found that this routine works best for most people and their busy schedules.

Are you available in the evenings?
Yes, I have evening appointments available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We can also discuss short-term emergency check-ins if needed.
What is an emergency check-in?

Emergency check ins are 30-minute sessions with me outside of our regularly scheduled sessions. These are not available as a replacement of our regular sessions.

How does payment work?

Payments are accepted through PayPal and card.

What if I need to cancel?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled session time to avoid being charged. You may cancel your appointment by text or email. If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, you will be charged the full session rate.

What can I expect during our sessions?

You will get to talk about the thoughts and feelings that are keeping you stuck or causing pain. This is a safe space and a judgement-free zone.  It’s a freeing experience where you will get my unconditional support.

The two goals I have for you:

  • Short-term relief: Immediate relief of pain right now, so you can create moments of peace and calm.
  • Long-term healing: At the same time, I’ll also help you find long-term healing and move into the joyful, peaceful, rewarding life you deserve.

I will listen to you, and then I will teach you the specific skills you need to overcome sadness, grief, sleeplessness, anxiety, guilt, shame, isolation, hopelessness, or other symptoms you’re feeling.

Together, we’ll paint a picture of the kind of life you want. During our sessions, I’ll help you make that picture a reality in your life.

What modalities do you use in your client work?

I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Polyvagal Theory informed Somatic techniques, the Grief Recovery Method, as well as other methods as needed.

What is your training? How do you help people?

I hold certifications as a Grief Recovery Specialist and a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach.

What age ranges do you work with?

I work with ages 18 and up.

Who do you work with? Individuals? Couples?

I work with adults, both individuals and couples.

I don’t want to cry. Will you make me cry?

I won’t force you to cry.  However, tears do come up sometimes when discussing difficult things, and that’s okay.

Crying often causes a decrease in the release of cortisol and other stress-related hormones. If you do cry, you can think of it as a release of all the stress you’ve been carrying around.

Do I have to get dressed up for my sessions?

Heck no! We’ll meet via Zoom sessions. So come as you are. Pajamas allowed!

Can my pet attend?

Definitely!

Coaching

What is your training? How do you help people?

I am trained in CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), Polyvagal Theory, and Somatic techniques – and I’m a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach, a Grief Recovery Specialist and hold a certification in Somatic Embodiment and Regulation. I help people who are suffering from grief, depression, anxiety, chronic stress and trauma. During sessions, I provide safety and connection for clients who are in pain. I use and teach CBT and DBT, polyvagal theory, and somatic tools. These will help you find immediate relief in the short-term, and put you on the road to long-term inner wellness. They’ll help you get your life back and feel good again.

What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

There’s actually a lot of overlap between the two. I chose the coaching modality because it offers some advantages that traditional therapy doesn’t have. Most importantly, I wanted to be able to connect with my clients on a personal level. Therapists are required to maintain a professional distance from their clients. As a coach, I am able to connect with my clients to a degree that is not possible if I were a therapist, which brings an immense amount of healing to people who come to me for help.

Second, I wanted to be able to work with clients who resonate with me regardless of their location. Therapy licensures produce barriers to work with people outside of their state.

I’m happy to answer any questions you have about the coaching modality during our consultation.

Favorite food?
White cake with buttercream frosting.  🙂
Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings?

I love them both. But if I was stuck on a deserted island and I had to choose, I’d go with Harry Potter.
